EExamption / Postponement of Entrance Fee / Tuition

 Admitted students who have academic strength and financial difficulties are eligible to request exemption/postponement from paying entrance fee/tuition. Those who wish to defer the collection of the entrance fee should submit the application form by the deadline. When applying for both the entrance fee waiver (deferment) and tuition fee waiver, only one copy of the documents needs to be submitted. Applicants should not pay the fee until the announcement of the application result. Paid admission fee is non-refundable. For more details, please refer to the "Admission Procedure Guide" distributed upon acceptance.

Admissions Policy

As the 21st century is said to be the century of food and the environment, there is an international demand for harmonization of nature and environmental conservation with production and development, and society, business, and government have set the sustainability of food production and the environment as the basis.

In order to meet these social demands, the Graduate School of Fisheries and Environmental Sciences aims to "promote education and research in the interdisciplinary and comprehensive fields of fisheries science, environmental science, and the fusion of the two, and to cultivate highly qualified professionals with practical leadership skills and internationally-minded researchers who can contribute to solving problems related to the environment and food. The basic philosophy of the Graduate School of Fisheries Science is to "contribute to the creation and development of new interdisciplinary science for the realization of human society in harmony with the environment.

The Department of Fisheries Science in the Master's Course of the Graduate School of Fisheries Science aims to cultivate human resources with a high level of specialized knowledge and applied skills in the fields of conservation of the marine environment and marine ecosystems, exploration of various life phenomena in the oceans, sustainable production and management of marine organisms, and effective utilization of marine biological resources, as well as basic knowledge and social awareness in a wide range of related fields.

For this purpose, the department seeks individuals with sufficient basic academic skills to study academic fields related to the marine environment and marine living resources, and who are willing to study and research independently, both in Japan and overseas. The department accepts a diverse range of applicants through three different entrance examinations: the General Entrance Examination, the Entrance Examination with Recommendation, and the Entrance Examination for International Students

General Entrance Examination

We select applicants who have basic academic skills at the bachelor's level in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and other natural sciences, English, and the field of their choice, and who are highly motivated to study.

Entrance Examination by Recommendation

This entrance exam selects students who have an excellent academic record, a clear sense of purpose and the ability to carry out research in the field of their choice.

Entrance Examination for International Students

This exam selects international students who have sufficient Japanese or English language skills to study and conduct research in the field of their choice, and who have a strong will to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired at the Graduate School in the future.

Basic Selection Process

In order to select students who have the qualities indicated in the image of the student we seek, we evaluate applicants comprehensively and from multiple perspectives through an interview, document review, and an external English test.

English external test: English proficiency will be evaluated based on the score of the English external test (TOEIC).

Interview: The validity and development of the research plan, willingness to contribute to society in the future, logical thinking ability, and basic academic ability will be evaluated through questions.

Based on these results, a comprehensive judgment will be made.

Entrance Examination by Recommendation

This is a selection method for those who have excellent academic records and a clear sense of purpose and ability to carry out research at the graduate school.

Interview: The validity and development of the research plan, motivation and positive attitude toward future social contribution, logical thinking ability, basic academic ability, and English ability will be evaluated through questions.

Document review: Transcripts will be used to evaluate basic academic skills, including those in related fields.

Based on these results, a comprehensive judgment will be made.

Entrance Examination for Working People

The entrance examination for working adults is designed for those who are engaged in environmental issues at companies, government offices, etc., or those who are working adults who are interested in environmental issues in their local communities and wish to be actively involved.

This is a selection method for international students to develop professional human resources who can respond to global environmental issues and be active on an international scale.

Interview: Through the interview, the validity and development of the research plan, motivation and positive attitude toward future social contribution, basic academic ability, ability to carry out research, logical thinking ability, Japanese language ability, and English language ability are evaluated.

Based on these results, a comprehensive judgment will be made.

Department of Environment and Marine Resources

Admissions Policy

The department offers the following two courses

In the Fisheries Science Course, students acquire new knowledge and techniques for the safe and advanced use and proper management of marine food resources.

In the Environmental Science Course, students acquire a wide range of specialized knowledge that contributes to solving environmental problems and building a sustainable society that coexists with the environment.

For this purpose, the department is looking for people who are interested in and enthusiastic about acquiring the above-mentioned specialized knowledge and skills, and who have basic and specialized knowledge and academic skills at the level of a master's degree in the sciences related to each course, both in Japan and overseas.
